The Olicamp Space Saver isn't a bulletproof, titanium cooking tool, but it is very affordable and adequate to its intended purpose.The cup will hold 16 oz. of liquid with enough headroom to comfortably boil that amount. This is exactly the amount of boiling water required for a standard Mountain House 2 serving, freeze dried entree packet. Measurements from 4 to 16 oz. are embossed on the side of the cup, which is convenient. The cup itself is strong enough to hold up to normal use, but the metal has some give. If you step on it by accident, you'll probably be short a container. The handles are a thick wire. They don't feel particularly sturdy at first, but when I tested the cup on a gas stove (see customer image), I was surprised to find that they work quite well. They are rigid enough to safely support 16 oz. of hot liquid, and thin enough to remain mostly cool to the touch. My Nalgene one quart bottle nests perfectly into the cup, and that saves a lot of space. Briefly...Pro: -Very sturdy -Nalgene nests perfectly -Folding arms are sturdy and just long enough to make for a good handle -The ounce gradations on the side can be seen both inside and outside the cup, so it's great for cooking Cons: -Heavy, but I guess that's a price you pay for having a durable cup that you can cook with -The arms have a tendency to flop out, but since they can be taken off very easily, it's also very easy to bend them to make the arms hold their place a little more firmly. Not sure if this would work, but maybe in the future Olicamp could magnetize the ends of the fold out arms so that they would stay folded in more readily? Overall a great product. In my mind, four out of five stars is a great rating. The stove itself is a Pepsi can stove (google search it for many different plans). The empty tomato can serves as a windscreen and pot stand. Four holes punched with a can opener allow air flow at the bottom. The cup sits on a pair of tent stakes. It takes 30mL of denatured alcohol and six minutes to boil 500mL of water. I've neglected to time how long it will keep the water boiling, but I'd guess another 6-7 minutes. YMMV depending on the type of alcohol stove you have. |
