Upon receiving my item, my initial impressions were:-Much smaller than I had expected. (key chain-size) -Possibly not very useful, being the only tools are: pliers, scissors, 1 screwdriver (appears to be a flat-head, but manual says can also be used as a Phillips), file, a pair of tweezers, and a bottle opener. The first test was to get it through airport security. Port Columbus airport searched my carry-on because of it, but after checking it--said no problem. The TSA agent that examined it mentioned it was the first multi-tool he'd seen without a knife. Incidentally, on my return trip, it didn't trigger any bag check at Philadelphia Airport. I have this tool clipped to the edge of my jeans pocket every day from when I wake up to when I go to bed at night. I have a Leatherman SuperTool 300 for tougher tasks but I use this for almost everything else.Pliers- The pliers are good for this size of multi tool and have good traction, although the serrations look like they could wear off if you use them too much. The wire cutters function very well. I have tested them on paper clips and aluminum wire about 1/8 inch thick (I don't know the gauge) and it cuts through those without needing to squeeze too hard. Note- there is a slot immediately behind the plyer joint where the spring goes that I find functions as a very good hard wire cutter/crimper like what is on the SuperTool 300 pliers. It is not meant for that though and the spring will click back into place when you close the pliers. Scissors- The scissors... That noted, this is a TSA friendly tool and maybe that's why a few things could be better for every day use.Review: Pros: This is a very well made little tool, when you open the pliers I can't believe how precise they are made, great feel and positive 'click'. The scissors are also very well made and unlike some older Leatherman (Fuse and Blast) the scissors open in closed position, no more sliced fingers. The scissors also made easy work of all fishing lines I tried and are very sturdy with thicker material where thumb rests on scissors. The clip to attach to person or lanyard is also very positive with a small clip - also the bottle opener works great. Cons: My biggest issue with this tool is the pliers square \ blunt tips which make it very hard for tight places. I will note they could be squared off for TSA safety... Read more |
